How to measure and fit your blinds,Blinds are a great way to improve the look of your home. They can also be an added safety measure, blocking out light and providing some privacy. When you're ready to buy new blinds, there are a few things you should know before making that purchase: how to measure them correctly and which type of blind is best for your particular needs. This article will discuss these two topics in depth so that you can make the right decision when it comes time to buy new window treatments!
The first thing to know about measuring is that there are a few different ways you can go about it. For many homes, the best way to measure blinds will be by using their width and height--so if your window is 48 inches wide and 70 inches tall, then this size would correspond with an average-sized window. Of course, there are some other factors you'll want to keep in mind, such as the location of your window. If you have a bay or bow window that's wider than it is tall (and thus needs more depth), then these measurements will be different--but this doesn't mean they're too complicated!
If you have any questions about how to measure for blinds before making an appointment with a company like Window Coverings Canada, don't hesitate to reach out and ask!
It's not always necessary to have a professional come in and measure your window for you sometimes, it can be done on the spot. If you're confident that these measurements are correct or close, then this is an option! However, if there are any uncertainties about whether something will work with your space (i.e., height), we recommend making an appointment with Window Coverings Canada so they can take some time to help make sure everything fits just right.
Finally: don't forget - when measuring blinds for yourself, keep in mind the location of the window as well as its width and height! This is especially important if you need more depth than most windows because of a bay or bow shape.
There are many different sizes of blinds available, but some measurements that we commonly use include:
36" wide by 64" long (or the alternative 36” wide x 72” long) and 48" wide x 96" long. These measurements differ depending on whether you're looking for a horizontal or vertical window covering! If you have any doubts about which size will work best in your space, please contact balconiesandhandrails at 250-000-3300 to talk with one of our experts.
Perfect Fit blinds are a great option for bay and bow windows because they more closely match the shape of your window. The measurement for Perfect Fit is based on height not width, so no matter how deep or shallow your window runs, you can order it in size!
Measure from one end to the other without including any head room (the space above the top). Multiply this by two if you’re measuring vertically or four if you’re measuring horizontally. This will give you an approximate length.
-Measure across at its widest point - again excluding headroom - multiply that number by two to get an approximate width.
Convert these numbers into feet and inches and measure to the nearest foot.
For example: if you are measuring for a 72" x 24" window, divide by two to get 36", then add an inch extra on both sides of your numbers (36-inch width would be 37 inches)

All our blinds are made custom with the measurements provided by YOU so we can assure they fit perfectly, but there is plenty of info out there on how to take accurate measurements! There’s no need to be intimidated - it’s actually an easy process if you have someone helping you who has done this before or follow these simple instructions:
Stand up straight against a wall inside your home where light doesn't enter from outside. Stand about three feet away from the wall and hold a tape measure in the same hand as you would use to drive. Place the tape measure on top of your head, at a 90 degree angle from the floor - so that when it falls straight down, it will hit the wall in front of you and give you an accurate measurement!
Measurements should be taken with shoes off and feet shoulder-width apart to get an accurate reading.
Keep these measurements handy for now because we’ll need them soon!
